Research and Development Tax Incentive - Overseas R&D Activities
Overview
A tax offset program that allows eligible companies to claim tax deductions for research and development activities conducted overseas. Companies must obtain an Overseas Finding before registering and claiming a tax offset for overseas R&D activities, demonstrating that the work cannot be conducted in Australia and meets specific scientific and cost conditions.
Eligibility Requirements
Overseas R&D activities must meet four conditions: be eligible core or supporting R&D activities, have a scientific link to an Australian core R&D activity, be unable to be conducted in Australia due to lack of facilities/expertise/equipment/population/geographical features, and have lower anticipated costs than related Australian R&D activities. An Overseas Finding must be obtained before the end of the income year in which the activity is conducted.
